YOUR JOURNEY

Join us on a 300-mile multi-activity virtual challenge starting at the South West tip of the UK mainland and finishing at Peckham Pulse, the home of Down’s South London.

As you make your way across the south of England you’ll pass meaningful milestones where you can learn more about your location and get motivational messages to keep you on track.

The beauty of doing the challenge virtually is that you can take part at your own pace and in your own space throughout over 30 days to fit in with your other commitments. To track your progress you can input your distance on the website manually. But if you have a fitness app on your phone – e.g. Strava, Fitbit or RunKeeper – you can automatically sync your progress.

And best of all, you can track the progress of yourself, your team and others taking part in the challenge on the exclusive event mapping web page.

Your participation can help support Down’s South London whilst providing inspiration to stay active as the autumn nights draw in.

TEAMS

You can enter solo or can share the experience as part of a team of 2-10 people. Perfect for groups at work, your running or football club, or how about taking on the challenge as a family?! Important: To comply with General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) all entrants must be aged 16+ on 17th October 2020.

If you would like to enter as a team please nominate a team captain and enter the name of your team when you register. Each team member needs to pay the relevant entry fee.

CHARITIES

This challenge is being promoted in support of Down’s South London (DSL), a charity which provides vital services to children with Down’s Syndrome and their families in South London.

Children with Down’s Syndrome receive a unique package of speech and language therapy, physiotherapy and occupational therapy from a team of highly skilled therapists which specialist knowledge of how children with Down’s syndrome develop. This is done in small groups of 2-4 children at Peckham Pulse and, within weeks of lockdown starting, our brilliant therapists had already made a plan to provide therapies via video call. This has been amazingly successful with glowing praise from parents about the continued quality of the service (where very often other therapies provided in school or by the NHS stopped completely).

DSL is also a family support network, providing much needed support and information sharing as well as valuable friendship opportunities for parents/carers and the children themselves. We usually run a range of social events and, while we are unable to have socials in person, we have organised various events over Zoom including our hugely popular “Singing Hands” sessions.

Our service is paid for by voluntary donations and through a range of fundraising initiatives by DSL’s families and their friends and supporters. This year our donations have fallen by around £50,000 already. This is roughly half of the cost of running the service for a year, so we’ve moved our fundraising events online!

Please get involved and donate whatever you can to help us to continue providing therapies at this really difficult time.
