YOUR JOURNEY
On the 5th August 2020 we said goodbye to our friend and fellow Round Tabler, Rob Ainsworth, following a short, but well-fought, battle with cancer. Through Round Table Rob met and made like-minded friends both in Winchester RT63 and within our twinned Tables in Europe, Africa and India.
We as friends and fellow Tablers will embark on a virtual challenge walking, running, and cycling 18,000 miles over 92 days, remembering Rob and the good times had as we go through our journey, raising awareness of blood cancer and blood disorders conditions, their treatment, and highlighting the importance of registration of potential stem cell donors to save patients’ lives.
The beauty of doing a challenge virtually is that you can take part at your own pace and in your own space throughout the month to fit in with your other commitments. To track your progress you can input your distance on the website manually. But if you have a fitness app on your phone – e.g. Fitbit, RunKeeper, Strava or Under Armour – you can automatically sync your activity to the event pathway.
And when we get to the finish line every member of the Remembering Rob Super Team will get rewarded with a unique medal to commemorate your participation in The Trip.
CHARITY
This challenge, promoted by Winchester Round Table, is in support of DKMS – the world’s largest stem cell donor register whose mission is ‘to provide as many blood cancer patients as possible with a second chance at life’.
As an international non-profit organisation in the fight against blood cancer and blood disorders, DKMS focuses on raising awareness around these conditions, their treatment, and the registration of potential stem cell donors to save patients’ lives.
Founded in Germany in 1991, since launching in the UK, in 2013, they have registered more than 500,000 people as potential blood stem cell donors. Some of these amazing people have gone on to donate blood stem cells, giving more than 800-second chances of life to blood cancer patients.
Our aim from this virtual challenge is to raise £4,000 to cover the cost of 100 donor registrations. The official fundraising page can be found here: https://app.donater.co.uk/?#/donate/VirtualEuro63Trip
