BIANCHI DAMA’S ITALIAN ADVENTURE: THE 1885

Join Bianchi Dama on their virtual South to North Tour of Italy during March, April and May 2021. Interact with the team along the route and rendezvous at the marked points of interest and enjoy the stunning scenery along the way.

Each £29 entry fee includes a donation to the Mental Health Foundation, a donation to the Bianchi Dama women’s team and all registration, set-up, admin and running costs for the 3 months. Ride as an individual, group, club, team or office and raise funds for your own charity – the choice is yours.

This is not a race, it’s a group adventure in Italy, the home of Bianchi Bicycles. And our 1885 kms route acknowledges the founding date of this legendary cycling brand in 1885.

There’s virtually nothing like it so why not join us? Ciao!

EVENT PROMOTER

Bianchi Dama are one of the UK’s foremost female elite cycling teams. The riders compete at the highest level in the UK as well as selected International races. Each of the team members hold down full-time jobs or are University students and commit to racing at an elite level despite these commitments.

Whilst promoting this challenge we would also like to highlight our 2021 team sponsors and thank them for their continuing support of the team throughout a challenging year.

YOUR PACE

To track your progress you can input your distance on the website manually. But if you use a fitness app – e.g. Strava, Runkeeper, Apple Health, Garmin or Under Armour – you can automatically sync your progress (set-up notes provided on Action List). You can see the progress of yourself, your team and others during the event. You even get to see your virtual surroundings wherever you are via Google Street View.

The beauty of doing the challenge virtually is that you exercise at your own pace and in your own space throughout to fit in with your other commitments and prevailing COVID health guidelines. We also have a Pacer Icon that’ll keep you on target. To finish The 1885 by Sunday 30th May (which coincides with the final stage of the 2021 Giro d’Italia) as a Solo entrant you’ll need to average 21 kms per day.

YOUR TEAM

If going solo sounds like heavy work why not share the load with a friend or two? With a Duo Team (2 members) the average distance drops to 10.5 kms/day and for a Trio Team (3 members) this falls to 7 kms/day. Both Team options both still represent a challenge but with extra ‘domestiques’ you can do this! So just find a friend or two, register with a funky team name and send us a photo so we can add it as the image for your map icon.

MENTAL HEALTH FOUNDATION

Prevention is at the heart of what we do. Our vision is good mental health for all. Our mission is to help people understand, protect and sustain their mental health.

Making Prevention Happen – Since 1949, the Mental Health Foundation has been the UK’s leading charity for everyone’s mental health. With prevention at the heart of what we do, we aim to find and address the sources of mental health problems so that people and communities can thrive.

Prevention of poor mental health is not only possible, but urgently needed. Our strategy affirms our commitment to making prevention happen, so that people across the UK can live mentally healthier lives.

We are focusing on three key areas:
1. Impact – We will systematically consider how to scale ideas informed by evidence. We will build partnerships and alliances that increase the impact and reach of our work.
2. Influence – We will harness evidence and the voice of lived experience to advocate for preventive approaches and create campaigns which tackle the root causes of poor mental health.
3. Integrity – We will continue to build a strong organisation that lives its values – that is open, kind, outward-looking and sustainable.

We’ve set a target to raise £1885 for the Mental Health Foundation during this challenge. To achieve this we all need to pull together. Please direct all your friends and family to our official fundraising page for The 1885: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/the1885.

N.B. You are welcome to take part in The 1885 and fundraise for the charity of your choice.
